Should you see a doctor if you have an allergic reaction?

Skin rashes, itching, sneezing, or watery eyes can occur in some people when exposed to some household pets, bee stings, dust, weeds, molds, and not very common foods, like nuts, and shellfish. Anybody who suddenly begins to swell in the mouth – more notably the tongue – starts vomiting, wheezing, developing abdominal and chest aches, or even falling unconscious, is reacting more severely to an allergen.
Fifteen minutes or more after some more severe reactions, a person can die or go into anaphylactic shock in the absence of treatment. Exposure to an allergen can cause a reaction within a minute or even a day.
Severe allergic reactions occur on the occasion of recurring contact with an allergen, involving less and less exposure to trigger the reaction. To relieve the symptoms of environmental and pet allergies, some people take Benadryl, an antihistamine, or decongestants; while others undergo regular asthma treating procedures and immunotherapy.
Whenever possible, shellfish and poison ivy, and peanuts and bee stings, that have been known to cause very violent allergic reactions on exposure, should be avoided. Epi-Pens are carried by those who have had severe allergic reactions in the past, in case of accidental exposure.
Emergency use of the Epi-Pen must be done on exposure to an allergen so it contains epinephrine in a pre-filled syringe. Any large muscle may be used for administration once the needle guard on the Epi-Pen has been pulled off. There is no need to take off any clothing since the Epi-Pen can be administered through clothes.
Once experiencing an allergic reaction, the person must be closely watched. Begin to take emergency procedures once you observe that the victim is not improving after the administration of the Epi-pen.
